Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, cut into small pieces, at room temperature
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1½ – 2 cups applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray.
  3. Add butter, brown sugar, and flour to a food processor bowl.
  4. Pulse the mixture until it forms small, pea-sized crumbs.
  5. Add 1 ½ teaspoons of cinnamon and 1 cup of oats to the food processor.
  6. Pulse just until the oats and cinnamon are incorporated into the mixture.
  7. Place half of the oat mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  8. Press the oat mixture down firmly with your hands to form the bottom crust.
  9. In a small mixing bowl, combine 1½ – 2 cups of applesauce and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
  10. Pour the applesauce filling on top of the pressed oat mixture.
  11. Spread the filling evenly over the oat mixture.
  12. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture evenly over the applesauce filling.
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
  14. Allow the bars to fully cool before slicing them.
  15. Slice the cooled bars into 12 equal pieces.

Notes

Use salted butter that is softened for best results.
Old-fashioned oats provide a better texture than quick oats.
Adjust applesauce quantity between 1½ and 2 cups based on preference.
Always cool bars completely before slicing for clean cuts.
If you don’t have a food processor, use a mixer or your hands to combine crust ingredients.
